A Modified Variable Bit Rate Source Routing Energy Efficient Protocol for Wireless Mobile AdHoc Networks

In MANETs, there are many routing protocols like table-driven and on-demand routing protocols. Among these protocols, on-demand routing protocols are very sensitive in achieving the major challenges of MANET such as routing, security, bandwidth, quality of service and reliability and so on. The most popular on-demand routing protocols are Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol and Temporally Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA). Many research works are going on these on-demand routing protocols including the energy efficiency (power management), security and providing good QoS. Many works have not focused on applying variable bit rate transmission and power of the node on these routing protocols for achieving the QoS parameters. In this work we designed a new energy based protocol named Variable Bit-rate Source Routing (VBSR) protocol. The modified VBSR is analyzed for various QoS parameters viz. energy consumption, packet delivery ratio, throughput, delay and overhead.
